The only free URL redirection with name.com uses non-secure HTTP and not HTTPS. I quote from speaking with customer service:
It looks like you have URL forwarding and the forwarding functionality is operational for the domain names when accessed via the bare domain and the www subdomain. However, please note that our free URL forwarding tool does not support forwarding for secure domains (HTTPS) due to its reliance on DNS-based forwarding, which requires an SSL certificate installed on the server associated with the domain. Currently, the forwarding works without the HTTPS protocol, which is the expected behavior. If you would like to enable HTTPS forwarding for the domain name. You will need to associate each domain with a hosting product, install an SSL certificate for the domain, and subsequently configure the forwarding settings on the hosting server.
This is a limitation of the free URL forwarding that we offer.
I will use dreamhost exclusively from now on because this same services cost nothing extra there.
